Forestry

Woodland Management - We work with the client to create and maintain the woodland with a definitive plan. Short term plans could be felling of trees for wood-fuel or timber, track clearance, or removal of dangerous or fallen trees. Longer term plans can run from 5 to 30 years and consider selective felling, replanting /natural regeneration, creating an "edge" to the woodland, and planting hedges or installing fencing for wildlife habitat/ protection.

We can help with applying for felling licenses or woodland grants with the forestry commission.

Track Clearance and Creation - To open up new tracks into woodland for access or to maintain existing tracks. If there is a public right of way on your land, it is the land owner responsibility to ensure the tracks are clear of vegetation and obstruction.

Coppicing, felling and Thinning - Coppicing is a form of sustainable management. With certain species, the trees can be cut to ground level and then left to regrow. This cycle can carry on and growth is recurrent. Some of the oldest trees in the country are coppiced trees. We carry out small felling operations for timber or wood-fuel and use small atv's to extract the wood to minimise damage to the woodland.

Thinning is used to selectively remove poor specimens and/or to give more space and light to those with a greater potential to grow into fine mature trees.

Gates and Fencing - The installation of gates and fencing can be critical to some woodlands. Trespassers and wild animals could devastate a woodland and ruin years of hard work.
